Nintendo make the first bold move to take its games and characters into the mobile game space. And clearly rival Sony does not want to stay behind. Which is why the Japanese company now announced the release of several own mobile games early next year.

From Playstation to mobile devices

According to Sony’s plans no fewer than six new mobile games will come to the market by April 2017. The newly developed games will look familiar to many gamers. And that is because they are based on already existing successful PlayStation franchises. All together ten different games are in the making which are all expected to come to the market in 2017. Among the titles that Sony revealed are Hot Shots Golf, Wild Arms, Arc the Lad, and What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord?.

New daughter company in charge of mobile

Sony seems to be serious about its dedication to the mobile game market. Which is why it formed a new company called ForwardWorks already in March this year. The new formation works on the adaption of existing PlayStation games to mobile devices. In addition to that ForwardWorks’ developers are working on a something called Project Field. That is a trading card platform developed by Sony that works together with a smartphone app.

Only in Japan for now

For now the new mobile games only targeted the Japanese market where they will be launched for iOS and Android. At the moment there are no talks about a global release. But competition is fierce on the market. To take its share, Sony will soon have to also have to think about other markets to play a role in the future of mobile games.
