It does not happen often these days that a game gets released with any prior promotion campaign. Especially when a big publisher is involved. But now Sony surprised players and experts alike with a brand new Ghostbusters VR game.

Creative input by movie director Reitman

The whole experience called Ghostbusters VR: Now Hiring runs for only roughly 10 minutes. It was built by CreateVR. The creators wanted to give it as much feeling as possible of the movies, though. Which is why they heavily involved Ivan Reitman, the director of the original movies in the production.

Based on the 2016 movie

The experience takes place in the cinematic universe explored in last year’s movie remake. The game puts players in the role of a newly hired member of the Ghostbusters team. You will be guided through the game by the ghost Mooglie, who you will know from the Ghostbusters logo. But also his voice will sounds familiar to you. He has been dubbed by Patton Oswalt.

Explore the Ghostbuster headquarters

Your first task as a new ghostbuster is to capture a ghost with a proton pack and ghost trap. During the game, you get to poke around the company’s headquarters, assemble and fire a proton pack and check out the basement where the Ghost Containment Unit lies.

More to come

The short VR experience is priced at $6.99. It is built for PlayStation VR. Which means it requires a PlayStation 4, PS VR headset, and PS Move controllers. Sony revealed that future episodes are still under consideration. But so far there is no information about the timetable for the future releases.
