Great news for Harry Potter fans! Your phone just gained magical powers. Well, only in case you own an Android device. This was made possible with Google’s latest update.
Your very own wand
This Tuesday the company announced three new Harry Potter spells to arrive to all Android devices. Activating…excuse us…casting them is fairly easy. Just use the voice assistant and say “Okay Google, Lumos” to turn on your phone’s flashlight. To turn it off, say “Okay Google, Nox”. You can also say “Okay Google, Silencio” to mute your phone. Be sure to pronounce the spells very clearly though for the spells to work.
Promotion of Harry Potter prequel
The feature has been developed hand-in-hand with Warner Bros. It promotes the launch of the movie “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. The film is a prequel to the Harry Potter series, is set in New York during the 1920s and features ‘magizoologist’ Newt Scamander.
There is more for Harry Potter fans
But Google has even more up its sleeve for fans of the J. K. Rowling’s magical world. This includes a Fantastic Beasts makeover for Google Maps including scenes and locations from the film that fans can visit using their device. And even the Daydream virtual reality platform got a magical update. With a new app users can explore Newt Scamander’s apartment. There they can have a closer look at Newt’s case, solve puzzles and find his beasts.
